Do you ever stumble onto a sale of bananas? Ever wonder, “What would I do with them?” Baking banana bread is one option, but throwing them in the dehydrator at home makes the best, healthiest, most addictive dried fruit kid-approved snack EVER.
Josh takes a gallon sized storage bag of dried bananas with him to work and snacks on them throughout the day. It really helps in the summer time when the potassium is vital to prevent muscle cramps from heat exhaustion! His co-workers love them and so do our kids! Even our dogs like them as a chewy, healthy treat.
If you have a food dehydrator already, this is quick and easy! We use an Excalibur Food Dehydrator. It’s great for drying our veggies and fruits from our garden. There are many different models with all the bells and whistles available on Amazon. Check out our affiliate link…
Step 1.
Clean and prepare the dehydrator to run for 10-12 hours. You’ll need a box or bag to put discarded banana peels. We save them to compost in our garden.
Step 2.
Peel a banana. Then, use your index finger to push up through the banana bottom and it will naturally start to split into three segments. Spread them on the dehydrator racks.
Step 4.
Keep going until you’ve used all of your bananas or run out of room in your dehydrator!
Step 5.
Run the dehydrator for 10-12 hours or until your banana jerky is chewy and slightly tough. Remove it from the dehydrator before it becomes crunchy. The kids will be fighting over this healthy snack! Enjoy!
